THE BEST TASTING ROOMS Beaulieu Vineyards When he founded BV in 1900, on an unimproved four-acre lot in the tiny town of Rutherford, Georges de Latour had a single vision: to bring world-class wine to America. As it turned out, he not only made better wine - he revolutionized the whole process. He and master winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff pioneered the aging of wine in small oak barrels. When the French oak they used became unavailable during World War II, they collaborated with local coopers to craft American oak barrels, which could accommodate the special needs of wine aging. Today, head winemaker Joel Aiken is taking BV in new directions while staying true to the high standards of his predecessors. Joel possesses an innovative spirit and an impressive expertise in oak aging. Tasting Room The BV winery in Rutherford, Napa Valley is a welcome respite from the hectic ways of many Napa wineries. Elegant, quiet, and understated much like their wines, the tasting room holds exhibits speaking to the rich history of Napa winemaking, with BV at its root. Visitors are greeted at the door with a glass of chardonnay, and are then invited to taste a variety of daily wine offerings at the beautiful tasting bar. Downstairs, the BV store is packed with excellent wines to purchase, along with a wide selection of BV namesakes and wine enthusiast products. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the prices are reasonable. For a special treat, visit the Reserve Tasting Room. A small fee will let you taste from a variety of rare reserve and library wines that are otherwise unavailable. The BV Tasting Room is open 10am - 5pm daily, 7 days a week. The BV Reserve Tasting Room is open 10:30am - 4:30pm daily, 7 days a week.
