Past Events WINE EVENTS: Close-up THE ULTIMATE FOOD AND WINE EXPERIENCE COMES TO SEATTLE America's Premier Producer of Italian Varietal Wines SONOMA, Calif. – Viansa Winery and Marketplace, America's premier producer of Italian varietal wines is bringing a taste of Tuscany and the charm of its Sonoma winery to Seattle's W Hotel on Sunday, April 28th, from 2 to 5pm.Deemed “Viaggio di Viansa” for “Travels of Viansa,” the Seattle event is one in a series of wine and food events held in major cities around the country to showcase Viansa's superior wine, food, and hospitality. Each Viaggio event is filled with exciting activities, including vertical tastings, wine seminars, and barrel samples, plus selections of Viansa's gourmet foods and estate-grown olive oils paired with Viansa wines, as well as special pricing on Viansa wines. The Seattle event will feature once-in-a-lifetime vertical tastings of Viansa's flagship wine, Ossidiana, including barrel samples of the not-yet-released 2000 vintage. Ossidiana is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, exemplifying the richness and hearty berriness of Sonoma County grapes. In addition to the Ossidiana tasting, several of Viansa's other premier wines will be available for tasting, including Viansa's 1999 Samuele, 1999 (Thalia) Sangiovese, 1999 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 2000 Prindelo, 1999 (Cento per Cento) Chardonnay, and 2000 (Vittoria) Pinot Grigio. Because Viansa's wines are not available in stores or restaurants, this is a unique opportunity for Seattle connoisseurs to taste the wines. In addition to the wines, Viansa's estate olive oils will be showcased. The California Olive Oil Council has rated Viansa Estate Olive Oil as extra virgin – their highest classification. Viansa olive oils are a true Tuscan experience, as most of the more than 1,000 olive trees in the Viansa orchard have been imported from Italy. To specially complement the wines, the W's executive chef Johnathan Sundstrom and banquet chef Bob Prince have created an array of hors d'oeuvres using Viansa's olive oils and exclusive line of Cal-Ital® gourmet food products. Food products will include: Fig and Shallots with Hazelnuts, Pepper Parmesan Mustard, Spinach Thyme Pesto, Artichokes in Nebbiolo, Smokey Onion Mustard, Smoked Mozzarella, and Chocolate Cherries.Jonathan Sebastiani, president of Viansa; Michael Sebastiani, Viansa's winemaker, and Joe Sebastiani, Viansa's olive oil estate manager, will be on hand to assist with the tastings and answer questions regarding the wines, olive oils and food and wine pairings. A fourth-generation wine family, the Sebastiani brothers have Italian wine and food in their blood.“Viaggio di Viansa is a unique concept we've pioneered to bring the tastes of Tuscany to select cites throughout the U.S.,” says Jonathan Sebastiani, president of Viansa. “We know the people of Seattle love fine wines and gourmet foods – we're excited to be able to bring them the Viansa tradition of winemaking and fine Tuscan-style food.”The Pacific Northwest chapter of the American Institute of Wine & Food (AIWF) is a sponsor of the event. “We're are thrilled to have the premier U.S. producer of fine Italian varietals come to Seattle,” said Ken Avedisian, chapter president. “This truly is a unique opportunity for Seattle connoisseurs to sample Viansa's finest wines and foods and enjoy a taste of the Viansa experience in their hometown.” The AIWF was founded by Julia Child, Robert Mondavi and others to understand and celebrate the pleasures, benefits, and traditions of the table.
