Lake Tahoe Autumn Food & Wine Festival

"Some of our more popular seminars and demonstrations tend to sell out, so we advise attendees to buy tickets before arriving for the weekend," said Judy Laverty, North Lake Tahoe Resort Association Event Coordinator.

The Festival includes seminars and demonstrations Saturday, October 19, with John Ash, Jennifer Bushman, Michael Chiarello, Lars Kronmark and Charbay Vodka covering such topics as desserts, appetizers, wine recipes and pairings, and salads. Sunday brings the much-anticipated and prestigious Grand Tasting, pairing more than 30 world-class wineries with Tahoe area chefs. All seminars and the Tasting are held at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley, California.

The website, www.mytahoevacation.com, contains a complete listing of events and descriptions, as well as times and prices for convenient planning. Also available on the site is accommodations information and the option to book on-line.

A celebrity chef dinner is held Saturday night at Restaurant Glissandi, located at the resort. In celebration of the Autumn Food and Wine Festival, several restaurants are also presenting unique food and wine pairings or specials at their own establishments. The Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival is a fund-raiser produced by the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. Interested attendees can also contact the Association's Lake Tahoe Central Reservations division at 800-824-6348 for more information or to order tickets.

The Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival will put more than 30 local restaurants side by side with world-class wineries and Napa's best chefs next month at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley, California.

Seminars and cooking demonstrations will take place Saturday, October 19, and the highly-anticipated Culinary Competition and Grand Tasting kicks off Sunday at noon. The Tahoe area's finest restaurants will be paired with prestigious wineries at the Grand Tasting, in hopes of taking home the coveted title of Best Marriage of Food and Wine.

"It's always fun to pair up with a winery and choose a dish that best complements it," Chef Tim Hill, of Jakes on the Lake, said. "We start working a couple of months out, but we try to prepare something similar to what you would get here in the restaurant everyday."

Participating restaurant's include Balboa Café, Cal Neva Casino Resort, Citronee Bistro and Wine Bar, Graham's at Squaw Valley, Jake's on the Lake, Java Sushi, Lisa's Central Market, Lahonton Golf Club, Longboard's Bar and Grill at Plumas Pines, Moody's Bistro and Lounge, Nakoma Resort and Spa, Pacific Crest, PlumpJack Café, Resort at Squaw Creek Catering, Restaurant Glissandi, Ristorante Montagna, Soul Sushi and Barbeque, Sunnyside Resort, Tahoe Biltmore, Timbercreek at Northstar, Truckee Sourdough, Twin Peaks Catering, Wild Goose, Wolfdales, and Yama Sushi.

On Saturday, October 19, Restaurant Glissandi will host a limited-seating Celebrity Chef Dinner beginning with a Charbay martini bar and appetizers. The dinner gives guests the opportunity to not only enjoy a five-course gourmet dinner with wines, but to also dine with celebrity chefs John Ash, Jennifer Bushman, Michael Chiarello and Lars Kronmark, A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe.

Also in celebration of Autumn Food and Wine Weekend, several other participating restaurants will pull out all the stops with special food and wine presentations at their respective restaurants. Please call restaurants directly for specific events and specials.

"Our area is home to the Sierra's finest cuisine, and everyone's involvement in this event is a way for visitors and locals to experience it all in one place," Judy Laverty, special events manager of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association said.
